Does the Sun cause Dark Spots?

Yes, the sun can cause dark spots on the skin if the sun is exposed for a prolonged period. Sunspots also referred to as liver spots, are quite frequent. Sunspots are a skin condition that can affect anybody, although individuals with pale skin and those over the age of 40 are more likely to get them.

They appear as flat dark spots on the skin and form as a result of prolonged sun exposure.

They can take on a variety of forms and appear most frequently on the parts of your body that have been subjected to the most direct sunlight, including your shoulders, face, forearms, and the palms and backs of your hands.

Although they do not represent a health risk and are not malignant, true sunspots can be treated for cosmetic reasons.

Major Cause of Dark Spots or Hyperpigmentation

Because exposure to the sun is the primary factor in skin hyperpigmentation, wearing sun protection is the essential thing you can do to reduce the risk of developing hyperpigmentation.

Recent studies have shown that high-energy visible light, which is the light we see all around us, also induces oxidative stress on the skin and can contribute to hyperpigmentation. The main cause of premature skin aging and skin hyperpigmentation issues is oxidative stress caused by the sun’s UVA and UVB radiations. However, oxidative stress is not the only cause of these issues.

Sunlight Induced Melasma

Melasma is a condition that mostly affects women and appears as bigger patches of hyperpigmentation on the face. Melasma is more prevalent in women than in males. It is believed that this condition arises when the female sex hormones induce an excessive generation of melanin in the skin that has been exposed to sunlight. Approximately 10 % of pregnant women and Almost 20% of women on oral contraceptives are affected by this condition.

Even while hormones are the major cause of melasma, exposure to the sun can speed up the condition’s progression and make it worse.

Sunlight Induced Freckles

Inheritance has a role in the development of freckles, most commonly observed in individuals with a pale complexion and red hair. The flat, brown patches known as freckles tend to grow more noticeable during the summer months when a person spends more time in the sun. They become less noticeable or vanish entirely throughout the winter. Freckles, on the other hand, tend to go away as one gets older, in contrast to sunspots.

Sunlight Induced Skin Cancer

Cancer of the skin is the consequence of the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal skin cells. This growth might be induced by UV radiation from the sun, or genetic abnormalities can cause it.

There are many kinds of cancer that can affect the skin. Melanoma is the most dangerous form of the disease, whereas basal cell carcinoma is the most common variety. A new mole or patch on the skin, one that is changing or expanding in size, as well as lesions that hurt, bleed, or don’t heal, are all potential warning signs of skin cancer. In addition, skin tumors frequently show border irregularities.

Dark spots due to the sun aren’t something to worry about, but you should have a doctor look at any place on your skin that is growing rapidly, is changing its appearance, or appears weird.

Protection of Skin from Sun

You can use SPF in the form of spray and cream.

  1. Protection By SPF Cream

Every sunscreen has an SPF, which stands for sun protection factor. Your sun exposure degree should determine your sunscreen’s optimal sun protection factor (SPF). Sunscreens that are used daily may have a lower SPF rating, but those who go out in the sun should use a sunscreen with a higher rating.

First and foremost, it is essential to have a strong understanding of what the SPF numbers imply. Instead of ensuring a certain amount of protection, they estimate how long it will take for your skin to become sunburned if you don’t use sunscreen.

For instance, if your sunscreen has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30, it will take your skin 30 times longer to sunburn than it would if exposed to the sun without any protection. However, this is only valid if it is utilized appropriately and in the appropriate quantity.

  1. Protection By SPF Spray

Using sunscreen in the form of spray will prevent the sun’s ultraviolet radiation from causing an increase in melanin formation and aggravating the development of dark spots. Sunscreen spray functions as a barrier, preventing an excessive amount of melanin from being produced.

Melasma and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation are both improved with the use of our sunscreen. Dark Spots are effectively avoided as a result.
